James Richard Verhoff

June 11, 1940 — January 30, 2019

James Richard “Jim” Verhoff, 78, of Wardsville, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born June 11, 1940, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Charles Leander and Nancy Ann (Isenberg) Verhoff.

Jim was united in marriage on April 8, 1961, in Freeburg, Missouri, to Willa Faye Owens who survives at the home.

Jim became an amputee as a young boy from an accident. This shaped the rest of his life by leading him into a career into Prosthetics. This allowed him to help countless amputees, as well as mentor many talented individuals who worked with amputees.

Jim was a small business owner throughout the majority of his career. He, along with his brother David, where involved in many business ventures including Columbia Prosthetics from 1972-1985, and Bry-Co Fabrication, from 1985-1990. From 1996 until his retirement in 2011, Jim owned and operated Jim Verhoff & Associates.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville, and was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 1567 where he served in the honor guard.

Jim enjoyed gardening, woodworking, canning, hunting, and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Verhoff, Wardsville; two children, Michael (Victoria) Verhoff, Sunrise Beach, MO; Julie (Howard) Hall, North Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Ashlie Verhoff, Adam Verhoff, Alec Verhoff, Regan Hall, Evan Hall; two great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Moore and Hayden Hall; and three siblings, David (Patty) Verhoff, Kansas City; Judi (Jack) Nichols, Ashland; and Jane (Lawrence) Copeland, Freeburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles Verhoff.

Visitation will be 8-10 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with the Rev. I.C. Medina officiating.

Entombment will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wardsville Knights of Columbus Building Fund Council 8399.
