James Edward Knaebel

James Edward Knaebel, 89, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, September 21, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital with his daughter, Kathy, holding his hand.

He was born May 8, 1931, in Cole County, Missouri, the son of the late Frank and Rose (Kliethermes) Knaebel.

At an early age, James and his family moved to Callaway County and he attended a one-room school through the eighth grade.

He served his country in the United States Navy from 1952-1960.

James was united in marriage on September 13, 1958, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City to Anna Marie Heimericks who preceded him in death on June 16, 2020.

He worked as a union carpenter and farmed all his life.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagle’s, and the American Legion. He had a green thumb in gardening and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a skilled craftsman making furniture and toys for his grandchildren.

Survivors include four children, Jackie (Ron) Hagenhoff, Taos; Ed (Frances) Knaebel, Jefferson City; Cindy (Donnie) Shiverdecker, New Bloomfield; Kathy (John) Haselhorst, Taos; eight grandchildren, Kenny (Brianne) Hagenhoff, Deann (Curtis) Wieberg, Holly Knaebel, Shelly Knaebel, Nikki Kresl (Taylor Mattern), J.J. (Lindsey) Kresl, Jason Haselhorst, Toni Haselhorst; five great-grandchildren, Konner Hagenhoff, Kensley Hagenhoff, Paisley Wieberg, Grayson Kresl, Emerson Kresl, and one on the way; and two siblings, Art (Genny) Knaebel, Kansas City; Rose (George) Dorge, Taos; a sister-in-law, Ann Knaebel, Taos; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Helen Marie (Lawrence) Scheppers, Agnes Ann (Oscar) Hood; and two brothers, Joe (Hildegard) Knaebel, and Francis Knaebel.

A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Jefferson City with visitation to follow till 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald Antweiler officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

The general public is welcome to attend services while following social distancing guidelines. Facial coverings are required while in attendance.

Memorials are suggested to Central Missouri Honor Flight.
