James Edvin Verslues

James "Jim" Edvin Verslues, 81, of Taos, passed away peacefully among family and loved ones on February 15, 2014, at his residence. He was born on May 6, 1932, in Taos, the son of the late Frank John and Catherine Theresa (Taube) Verslues. He was united in marriage on January 22, 1955, at Our Lady of the Snow Catholic Church in Mary's Home to Bertha "Kay" Frank who survives at the home. Jim was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos, a United States Army veteran, a 50 year member of Carpenter's Local 945, and a charter member of the Knight of Columbus Council 6430. Jim was a career carpenter working as a superintendent until his retirement in 1994. He served on the Blair Oaks School Board for six years (1966-1972). His most cherished time was spent on the family farm raising his children and enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As he reached retirement his days were filled with playing cards, hunting, fishing, and watching Cardinal Baseball/RFD TV. Jim is survived by his wife Kay; nine children, Dennis (Edith) Verslues, Taos; Carol (Ewing) Gourley, Springfield; Curtis (Debbie) Verslues, Holts Summit; Keith (Patty) Verslues, Fulton; Vicki (Jim) Dorge, Westphalia; Mitchell (Becky) Verslues, Lohman; Dawne (Larry) Fink, Highlands Ranch, Co; Francis (Stacie) Verslues, Taos; Theresa (Shannon) Johnson, Blue Springs, Mo; 22 grandchildren, Denise (Brad) Lehmen, Melissa (Brad) Rackers, Kim (TJ) McDaniel, Frank (Karen) Verslues, Daniel (Arin) VanLoo, Gwen VanLoo, Chelsea Verslues, Delta Verslues, Kathleen (Marc) Miller, Edward (Christina) Verslues, Bruce (Emily) Dorge, Jacob (Mandy) Dorge, Eric Dorge, Adam Verslues, Rachel Verslues, Abigail Fink, Olivia Fink, Eliza Fink, Grace Verslues, Evan Verslues, Sophia Verslues, Hayden Haney, as well as 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Joanie(Thomas) Hoerschgen, Springfield; two brothers, Herbert (Theresa) Verslues and Stanley (Laurine) Verslues, both of Taos; a sister-in-law, Ruthie Verslues; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Pleus. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Marilyn Kay Verslues; one grandchild, Bradley Verslues; five brothers, Richard Verslues, Fred (Meg) Verslues, Albert (Regina) Verslues, Leon Verslues, and Roger (Erma) Verslues; and two sisters, Angeline (Alfred) Berhorst and Mary Pleus. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos with the Rev. Roberto Ike officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 7319 Route M, Jefferson City, Mo 65101.
