JUDITH CHRISTINE ANDERSON

July 27, 1942 — August 5, 2011

Judith Christine Gavert Anderson, age 69, of Jefferson City, MO., formally of Hazleton, PA and Independence, MO, passed away, Friday, August 5, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Jefferson City, MO.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Anderson of Jefferson City; a brother Jim Gavert of Mesa, AZ; a sister, Lorraine Nicholas of Hazleton, PA; a daughter, Karen Petitt of Lebanon, IL; three sons: Mark Anderson, Honolulu, HI, Brian Anderson, Grover, MO and Eric Anderson, Grand Prairie, TX and fourteen grandchildren. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Luella Gavert, a sister Lois Bender and a niece, Michelle Nicholas.
Judy was born July 27, 1942, in Buffalo, New York. Her family moved to Hazleton, PA when Judy was in the seventh grade. Judy graduated from Hazleton High School with the class of 1960. She attended National College in Kansas City, MO and graduated in 1964 earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in sociology and a minor in psychology. During her junior year she met and married her husband on November 28, 1963. They were married for 46 years..
She was employed by the Missouri Department of Family Services, Child Abuse /Neglect Hotline in Jefferson City, Mo. While on the hotline, she transferred to the Rehabilitation Services for the Blind unit and received training as a certified rehabilitation counselor for the blind. After several years of rehabilitation case work, she received additional training to become a certified orientation and mobility specialist for the blind. During her employment, she received numerous awards and letters of commendation for her work. Judy retired in 2000 and started a private orientation and mobility practice specializing in working with blind elementary, high school and college students. She retired from her consulting practice in 2007.
Judy is a member of the Jefferson City Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many church callings that included the womens Relief Society, Young Womens organization, Primary, Sunday School, Family History Center and most recently, as an Emergency Preparedness Specialist. She also loved to sing in the choir and participate in church and community service projects.
She enjoyed singing as a member of the Jefferson City Cantorum. Until her health declined, she was president of the Cole County Community Emergency Response Team. She loved being with a group of her lady friends who are known as the WD 40s, wives and daughters over 40. Judy earned the general class ham radio license KD0AJF and was a member of the Mid Missouri Amateur Radio Club. She was also a member of the Association of Retired Missouri State Employees.
Judys greatest pleasure was interacting with family members and sharing in school, church and community activities, birthdays and holiday celebrations. She was instrumental in organizing and promoting family reunions.
Visitation will be at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Jefferson City Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, MO.
