JOHN ROBERT SWANSON

John Robert Swanson, 68, of Jefferson City, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on May 15, 1936 in Superior, Wisconsin, the son of Carl Swanson and Mavis Marie Runser Swanson. He was married on May 28, 1960 in Goodland, Kansas to Barbara Mary Stegman who survives at the home. A United States Air Force veteran, Mr. Swanson graduated in 1954 from Cathedral High School in Superior, Wisconsin; attended seminary at St. Johns Abbey in Collegeville, MN in 1954-1955; he graduated in 1962 from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science; a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1965; and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1969 from The University of Wisconsin. Mr. Swanson was an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Missouri from 1967-1974; an Associate Professor and Chairman of the Political Science Department at Central Methodist College from 1974-1975; a Conference Coordinator at the University of Missouri Conferences and Short Courses in 1975; and was a Budget Analyst for the State of Missouri Office of Administration from 1978-2001. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He loved politics, literature, art, photography, and was most passionate about genealogy. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Julia Swanson, Kansas City; his daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and John Galbraith, Columbia; four grandchildren, John Cole Galbraith, Lily MaryAnn Swanson, John Jack Truman Swanson, and Abigail Rose Swanson; one brother, James L. Swanson, North St. Paul, MN; one sister and brother-in-law, Lois A. and John Doty, Sun City West, AZ and one aunt, Viola White, Los Angeles, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb 14, 2005, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Marion J. Makarewicz officiating followed by Military Rites. Burial will be in Goodland, Kansas.
