JOHN H. VOSSEN

John H. Bud Vossen, 83, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Oak Tree Villas. He was born on October 7, 1925, in Jefferson City, the son of Henry H. and Minnie Lock Vossen. He was united in marriage on November 28, 1946, in Jefferson City to Helen DeBroeck who survives at the home. Bud was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II as an Airman-Navigator. Bud operated the family grocery store business from 1946-1948. From 1948-1982, Bud worked for the United States Postal Service retiring as Superintendent of Mail. He also worked for Helias High School in maintenance from 1984-1999. In previous years he was part-owner of Dix Road Cleaners. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Holy Name Society where he had served as past president. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1054 serving as Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree, State Director of Community Activities, State Chairman of Prison Concerns and Pro-Life, and District Deputy. He was also a lifetime-member of the Helias High School Athletic Booster Club as well as past president, and a member of the Jefferson City Charter Commission. Mr. Vossen was the recipient of the Vitae Society Recognition Award, Missouri Catholic Conference Citizen Recognition Award, Knights of Columbus Council 1054 Charles Kolb Service Award, and most recently been inducted into the Helias High School Hall of Fame. Other survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Chuck Register, three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Donna Vossen, Jim and Barb Vossen, Ron and Carol Vossen, all of Jefferson City; ten grandchildren, Jeff Vossen, Jacob Vossen, Justin Vossen, Elizabeth McLaughlin, Ryan Vossen, Nathan Vossen, Aaron Vossen, Meghan Vossen, Alex Register, Lauren Register; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Vossen, St. Louis; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Harold Vossen. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Msgr. Gregory L. Higley celebrant and Rev. Patrick G. Dolan and other priests concelebrating. Burial with full military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7:30 p.m. Monday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the John Bud Vossen Scholarship at Helias High School, 1305 Swifts Highway, Jefferson City, Mo 65109; Helias Foundation, P.O.
