JOHN ELMER EVERS

John Elmer Evers, 87, of Jefferson City, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on May 27, 1920, in Marys Home, the son of John Henry and Sophia Christine Hunepohl Evers. He was united in marriage on June 23, 1941, in Marys Home to Veronica Katherine Kempker, who survives at the home. John attended elementary school in Marys Home in a one-room school. He was a 1937 graduate of Eugene High School. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Evers taught school in Miller and Cole counties in one-room schools. He also worked for Temple Stephens Co., Millsaps Department Store, Curtis-Wright Aircraft Factory in St. Louis, Eagan Fan Manufacturing, Gene Schneider Heating & Refrigeration Co., and Bradley Maytag & Refrigeration Co. which was later bought by Mr. Evers and Mr. Becker and was renamed Becker & Evers Appliance Co. from which he retired after 56 years. He was a charter member and Eucharistic Minister of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Mens Association, Knights of Columbus Helias Counsel 1054, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a life-long resident of Central Missouri and a long-time participant of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Other survivors include: three daughters and three sons-in-law, Vera Sue Evers and John Wyker, Gladstone, MO; Mary Jane and Daniel Lord Muessig; Linda Kay and Donald Edmund Stuckenschneider, both of Jefferson City; one son, Elmer Lee Sonny Evers, Eldon; and his friend, Marilyn Sultzman, Jefferson City; ten grandchildren, Renee Meyer; Matthew Evers; Timothy Evers; Rebecca Adler; Jennifer Hudson; Drew Muessig; Anika Careaga; Doug Stuckenschneider; Hannah Stuckenschneider; and Heidi Saylor; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Marie Castrop, Jefferson City; and one brother, Norbert Evers and wife Katie, Columbia; and a special nephew, Bob Whitley, Holts Summit. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, Rick Luebbering; Randy Luebbering; two sisters, Beatrice Whitley; Elizabeth Evers; and one brother, Franklin Evers. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Joseph L. Shetler, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the John Evers Memorial Fund.
