JOHN BERNARD BENNE, JR.

July 27, 1921 — March 11, 2009

John Bernard Benne, Jr., 87, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on July 27, 1921, in Jefferson City, the son of John Bernard and Lillie May Meisner Benne, Sr. He was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. He was united in marriage on Sept. 20, 1947, in Jefferson City to Virginia Marie Gnagi who preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 1967. On July 18, 1973, in Jefferson City, he married Alberta Marie Livengood who preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 2004. Mr. Benne worked for the United States Post Office in Jefferson City as a supervisor of mail. He also worked for JC Federal Employees Credit Union. John was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church where he served as an usher and Communion Minister; Roy Sone VFW 1003; volunteered with school organizations at Helias and St. Peter School; and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He greatly enjoyed woodworking and fishing. Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Wayne Block, Sussex, Wis.; three sons and daughters-in-law, John Benne, III; James and Connie Benne, all of Holts Summit; Jerald and Paula Benne, Centertown; one step daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Richard Goldammer, St. Louis; three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Missy Livengood, Galveston, Tx.; Robert and Charline Livengood, Albany, Org.; Ross and Kim Livengood, St. Louis; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Lillie and Paul Luebbering, Mora, Mo; John and spouse Donna Gnagi, St. Louis; one brother and three sisters-in-law, David and Kaye Benne, Satellite Beach, Fla.; Margaret Benne; Frieda Benne, both of Jefferson City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; and three brothers, Bob Benne; Ray Benne; and Joe Benne. Visitation will be THIS Saturday 9-11 a.m. at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 11 a.m. Graveside services with full military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, at St. Peter Catholic Church.
