JAMES PAUL POPE

James Paul Pope, 60, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born on April 5, 1949, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Paul Joseph and Irene Louise Westerman Pope. He was married on Oct. 16, 1976, in Taos, Mo., to Mary Kay Talken who survives at the home. Mr. Pope attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School, was a 1967 graduate of Helias High School, and received a Bachelor degree in Sociology from Lincoln University in 1997. Through the years he was employed with DeLongs, Inc., Valley Glass, Tharp Lumber Co., Scruggs Lumber, Co., Advent Enterprises, and Meek Lumber Co. He was a member of the Cathedral of Saint Joseph and a former member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos. He was a devoted Catholic who prayed the Rosary and read the Bible daily. He enjoyed bowling, golf, reading, watching sports, and especially enjoyed coaching his daughter in several sports through her years in grade school.
Other survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth (Jason) Shaeffer, Jefferson City; one sister, Barbara Conaghan, Prairie Village, Kans.; three brothers-in-law, Jim (Rose) Talken, Danny (Shirley) Talken, and Francis Stratman, all of Jefferson City; one sister-in-law, Shirley (Norbert) Veltrop, Jefferson City; an uncle, Homer Kuper, Jefferson City; many special nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends and family; and Tiger the Cat. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Michael Pope; and a sister-in-law, Judy Stratman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph with the Rev. Benjamin Nwosu officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Taos. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23rd, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Samaritan Center, 1310 E. McCarty Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101; St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, 7319 Route M, Jefferson City, MO 65101; or a charity of the donors choice.
