James Emery May, 61, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, November 4, 2010, at his residence following a battle with cancer.
He was born on July 9, 1949, in Meta, Mo., the son of the late William Rayburn and Rosa Margaret Schaffer May. He was married on April 4, 1970, in Jefferson City, to Leora Mae Wagner who survives at the home. A 1967 graduate of Maries R1 High School in Vienna, Mo., Mr. May was employed as an Inventory Representative for AT&T Mobility for many years. He had also been employed with Town & Country John Deere dealership, United Telephone Co., and McGraw Edison. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church; St. Martins Knights of Columbus Council 7194 where he served as Treasurer, Deputy Knight, Grand Knight, and Bingo Caller; and Knights of Columbus Home Association where he served as Treasurer. He was also active in bowling leagues for over thirty years and enjoyed home renovation projects. Mr. May was a devoted father and grandfather. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren who he always called his guardian angels.
Other survivors include two daughters, Angela Neiman and her husband, Chris, Wardsville; and Rebecca Steinbeck, and her husband, Rob, Linn, Mo.; four grandchildren, Alex Neiman, Ben Steinbeck, Sarah Steinbeck, and Allison Steinbeck; two brothers, Stanley (Janie) Davis, Linn Creek, Mo.; and Dwight Howard, Meta, Mo.; and four sisters, Janice (Alfred) Kempker, Jefferson City; Carolyn (Bob) McFadden, Jefferson City; Pamela (Jim) Arnold, Linn, Mo.; and Gloria Phillips, Jefferson City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2010, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis Doyle officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
