Herman Brendel

Herman Brendel, 94, of Westphalia, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on September 4, 1918, in Freeburg, the son of the late Henry and Agnes Margaret (Bauer) Brendel. He was united in marriage on December 1, 1962, in St. Louis, to Bernadette Catherine Koester who preceded him in death on December 29, 2012. Mr. Brendel worked as a truck driver for Capital City Oil Company for over 21 years. He also had been employed with J. Dawson Inc. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia and the Holy Name Society. He also was a board member for the Osage County Public Water District No.2, Westphalia Fire District, and the Westphalia Senior Center. Herman enjoyed gardening and working on his farm in Westphalia. Survivors include two sisters, Rose Strano, Spring, Texas; Ida Lynn, Laurel, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members. He was also preceded in death by four sisters: Regina Rothove, Gertrude Bexten, Emma Rackers, and Una Brendel; and four brothers: Adolph, Leo, Ernest, and Ted Brendel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia with the Rev. John J. Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-10:45 a.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Westphalia.
