HERMAN HUBERT HASLAG

March 16, 1924 — January 21, 2008

Herman Hubert Haslag, 83, of California, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at his residence. He was born on March 16, 1924, in Loose Creek, Mo., the son of Frank and Josephine Kremer Haslag. He was married on July 30, 1953, in Loose Creek to Agatha Agnes Backes who survives at the home. Mr. Haslag was a life-long farmer, raising cattle and poultry in the Loose Creek area in earlier years, and later in Moniteau County. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars; and several farming organizations. He played shortstop for the Loose Creek Baseball team in younger years, and enjoyed fishing, reading, and football. But his greatest enjoyment was his children and grandchildren. Other survivors include six daughters and their husbands, Evelyn and John Dudenhoeffer, Chamois; Joyce and Andy Distler, St. Martins; Jeanne Haslag, Columbia; Linda and Mark Kremer, Loose Creek; Janice and Scott Kasmann, Columbia; and Cheryl and Joshua Govero, Springfield, Mo.; seven sons and their wives, Ralph and Jennifer Haslag, Rolla; David and Barbara Haslag, Ashland; Richie Haslag, Eugene, Ore.; Kenny and Brenda Haslag, Jefferson City; Allan and Jane Haslag, Taos; Andrew and Karen Haslag, Brazito; and Ron and Julie Haslag, California, Mo.; thirty grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Tillie Sommers, Wardsville; and Ann Schmitz, Loose Creek; and one brother and his wife, Harry and Margie Haslag, Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Dennis Haslag; brother, Joe Haslag; and two brothers-in-law, Vincent Sommers and Arthur Schmitz. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25th, at St. Martin Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Martin Catholic Church, 7148 St. Martins Avenue, Jefferson City, MO 65109; or Community Hospices of America, 2418 Hyde Park Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
