GEORGE PETER BISGES

George Peter Bisges, 94, of Osage Bend, died Monday, April 11, 2011, at Westphalia Hills.
He was born on February 22, 1917, in Osage Bend, the son of the late Henry and Mary Wankum Bisges.
He was united in marriage on February 4, 1941, in Osage Bend, to Cornelia Bode who preceded him in death on January 16, 1993.
George worked as a farmer and carpenter most of his life. In 1967 he started to work as a truck driver for Leroy Bisges Trucking until his retirement in 1989.
George was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos and a former member of St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church in Osage Bend where he sang in the church choir. He also was a member of the Holy Name Society, Over 50 Club, and taught CCD Classes in Osage Bend. He was a member of the Wardsville/Osage Bend Knights of Columbus #8399, Legion of Mary at St. Margarets, National Farmers Organization, and was a 4-H leader.
In his early years, Mr. Bisges played as a catcher for the Jefferson City Redbirds. He also played in the Osage Baseball League and later coached and managed the team. When his daughters played softball, he was a coach for their teams.
Mr. and Mrs. Bisges hosted a foreign exchange student and several teachers of the Osage Bend School during their marriage. After the death of his wife, George ministered to the elderly helping in any way he could.
He enjoyed reading, fishing, baseball, and solving puzzles. His greatest passion in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: four daughters, Georgene (Donald) Bernskoetter, Taos; Henrietta (Eugene) Fennewald, Osage Bend; Patricia (Charles) Luebbert; Cecilia (Melvin) Lock, both of Jefferson City; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosa Lueckenotte, Jefferson City; and three sisters-in-law, Ludvina Bisges, Helen Bisges, and Evelyn Bode.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Joseph Bernskoetter; one great-granddaughter, Landry Bernskoetter; one sister, Alice Bungart; and four brothers, Leo Bisges, Joseph Bisges, Hubert Bisges, and Frank Bisges.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2011, at St Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church, Osage Bend, with the Rev. Wayne M. Boyer officiating.
Burial will be in St Margaret of Antioch Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
