March 17, 1933 — October 8, 2008

Flora Lee Britt Mahaney, 75, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at St. Marys Health Center. Born on March 17, 1933, she was the seventh child born to Dewey C. A. and Irene Otey-Britt in Montgomery City, Mo. Her compassion was to see that every child had the opportunity to receive an education. This was so important to her that she opened up her home and took in several nieces and nephews so they could get the education they needed. She loved baseball and basketball. The Cardinals being her favorite team, you could always find her sitting in front of the television watching the game or listening to it on the radio. Lets not forget Lincoln University Blue Tigers basketball team where she never missed a game until her health began to fail. On October 3, 1959, she married the love of her life, Mr. Robert Wesley Mahaney who went to his heavenly home on March 30, 1998. Flora was baptized at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in 1946 under the leadership of Rev. Smith. After moving to Jefferson City, she joined Dunavant Chapel AME Zion Church which is now New Hope AME Zion Church where she has served as the Chairman of the Trustee Board, Secretary of the Trustee Board and Mother of the Deaconess Board. She was consecrated in 1996 under the Direction of Rev. Ivan L. Harvey. A missionary for Christ Jesus, she taught Sunday school and was leader of leaders. She was a member of Tony Jenkins American Legion Auxiliary Post 231, NAACP, and Missouri Kidney Foundation. Flora attended Montgomery County School and graduated in 1949. After this journey she traveled to Kansas City, Mo., and attended Western Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating in 1952 where she lettered in basketball and track. She also was a member of the Glee Club. She was a cook at Lone Star restaurant in Danville, Mo., Montgomery City Caf, Southwestern Bell in Montgomery City, Mo. and Airport Caf in Mexico, Mo, Jefferson City Day Care, Lincoln University from 1965 until 1973 and Scholastic Magazine Inc. from 1975 until her retirement in 1995. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted children: Robert E. Mahaney Sr., Montgomery City, Mo; Walter L. Mahaney, Jefferson City; Wilbur Gregory Britt, Lebanon, Mo.; Gilbert L. Mahaney (Debbie), San Diego, Calf.; James P. Mahaney Sr. (Vanessa), Holt Summit, Mo.; Blonnie E. Parker, St. Louis, Mo.; and Leana P. Mahaney, Roberta M.
