Emily Isabel Howie

Emily Isabel Free Thompson Howie, entered eternal life, Friday, February 27, 2015, at Adams Street Place, Jefferson City, Mo. She was born November 22, 1922, in Centerville, Iowa, daughter of Ira Haver Free and Harriet Pearle (Turner) Free. She spent her childhood on her parent's family farm one mile west of Iconium, Iowa. She was a 1940 graduate of Moravia, Iowa High School and taught in a one-room country school at Pleasant Hill in Appanoose County, Iowa from 1941-1943. She married Wayne Hugh Thompson on November 21, 1943, and was the family farm bookkeeper and co-operator on his home farm two miles north of Iconium until his death in a farm accident on March 18, 1967. Emily moved to Albia, Iowa, and worked as a Deputy Clerk of Court for the Magistrate's Office of Monroe County, Iowa, until retiring in 1987. She was married to Olin Reed Howie, Jr. from August 18, 1973, until his death on January 5, 1992. She then moved to her daughter, Connie's acreage, near Holts Summit, Mo. and helped care for her grandchildren. She had been an organist and pianist while a member of Iconium United Methodist Church, was a current member of First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City, Chapel Sunday School Class, and United Methodist Women. Emily loved to quilt, garden, and travel. Emily was the beloved mother of Bruce (Jo Ann) Thompson, Spokane, Wash.; Marcia (Roger) Stumpe, Lenexa, Kan.; and Connie (Jim) Benne, Holts Summit, Mo. She was blessed with six grandchildren: Jessica (Jacob Davis) Thompson, Atlanta, Ga., Tyler (Takami) Thompson, Seattle, Wash., Matthew (Shelly) Stumpe, Wichita, Kan., Laura Stumpe, Toronto, Canada, Megan (Levi) Payton, Neosho, Mo., and Kelsey (Michael) Lien, St. Joseph, Mo.; and seven great-grandchildren, Bryan Davis, Ethan Davis, Liam Thompson, Ailee Thompson, Joel Stumpe, Amanda Stumpe, and Grace Payton. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and siblings, Loy Free, Kenneth Free, and Doris (Free) Ammons. Visitation will be 1-2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeannie Martin Dudenhoeffer, officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. in Iconium Cemetery, Iconium, Iowa, Monday, March 9, 2015. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to Iconium Cemetery, c/o of Dick Brown, 2752-575th Avenue, Moravia, Ia.52571 or to Adam Street Place Activity Fund, 1024 Adams St., Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.
