Elizabeth J. Schanzmeyer

Elizabeth "Betty" J. Schanzmeyer, 93, of Westphalia, died Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Westphalia Hills. She was born on February 6, 1920, in Freeburg, the daughter of the late John and Christine (Wiegers) Schanzmeyer. Betty spent most of her life on her family farm and moved to Westphalia with her mother after the passing of her father. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia. She enjoyed estate sales and auctions. Her home was filled with treasures from the sales. Betty assembled monthly "care" packages that she sent to Denver, filled with goodies and more treasures she purchased for her great-nieces and great-nephew. She loved all animals, especially her cats. Survivors include: a sister-in-law, Barbara "Babs" Schanzmeyer, Denver, Co; a niece, Dolores (Wade) Tucker, Denver, Co; two great-nieces, Stephanie (Joe) Hebenstreit and Melinda (Sean) Stevens; one great-nephew, Travis Tucker; and one great-great-nephew, Jude Stevens. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore and Leo Schanzmeyer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia with the Rev. Mark S. Smith officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, P.O. Box 116, Westphalia, Mo 65085.
