Edward Joseph Holzem

Edward Joseph Holzem, 95, of Jefferson City, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. He was born on October 23, 1918, in Chamois, Missouri the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Kallmeyer) Holzem. Mr. Holzem served with the United States Army during the occupation of Japan following World War II. He was united in marriage on July 30, 1947, in Morrison, Missouri to Bertha Emma Hettenbach his wife of 66 years who survives. Mr. Holzem worked with Alfred Holzem Construction Company as a carpenter and home builder. He also worked for the State of Missouri retiring in 1977 as a carpenter. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Men's Association of the Cathedral, and the Knight of Columbus. Mr. Holzem enjoyed woodworking, gardening, farming and using John Deere implements, fishing, and playing pitch. Other survivors include: four children, Jeffrey Holzem (Shelley Swoyer), Jefferson City; Maxine (Fred) Lueckenotte, Manchester; Denise (Tom) Deuschle, Jefferson City; Diann (Keith) Rosenkrans, Hannibal; seven grandchildren, Amy Goche, Daryl Lueckenotte, Loren Holzem, Collin Holzem, Emma Deuschle, Tommy Deuschle, Katie Rosenkrans; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brother, Alfred Holzem, Milton Holzem, Harry Holzem, Herbert Holzem; and four sisters, Selma Schwermer, Freida Pack, Alice Moad, and Clara Smith. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2014, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Samaritan Center, 1310 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Mo 65101; or to Mass intentions at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 2305 West Main Street, Jefferson City, Mo 65109.
