Eddie L. Jones

Eddie L. Jones of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016, peacefully at his home. He was the son of the late Douglas and Rachel Jones. He was united in marriage on September 8, 1984, to Gail Jones who survives at the home. He was a graduate of Tuskegee High School in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was employed by the Secretary of State for several years before deciding to enroll into an Apprenticeship with United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He completed his term of Apprenticeship and was awarded a Journeyman's Certificate on August 15, 1972. He was a Professional Carpenter with the Local 945 for over 20 years. He was the owner of ELJ Construction, LLC. As an owner of various properties, he rehabbed and sold properties long before it became a Reality Show. He retired from the State of Missouri in 2010. Eddie was a private person. He was well respected by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Those who knew him enjoyed his dry sense of humor. For those who asked, he offered words of wisdom. Since retiring, Eddie enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, working in his yard, and gardening. He truly enjoyed his retirement and was a great cook. Eddie loved music and his absolute favorite was Gospel music. Eddie was a member of Second Baptist Church where he served as an Usher, Trustee, and sang with the Male Chorus. He was a member of Capitol City Lodge No. 9, Prince Hall Affiliated Free and Accepted Masons. Eddie is survived by his wife, Gail Jones; his two daughters, Angela (Jones) and her husband Reginald Calhoun, Montgomery, Alabama; Ashley (Jones) and her husband Brandon Kaufman, Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Marcus Chandler Houser, Nickolas Anthony Jones, Aria Abigail Kaufman; four sisters, Bernice Gartrell, Bertha Bain, Ann Benford, Margaret Jones; two brothers, Frederick Jones and John Lewis Jones; numerous cousins including Rena and Wilbert Davis and Geraldine Chandler of Jefferson City; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Origious Jones and Ira Jones; and a brother-in-law, George Gartrell. Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2016, at Second Baptist Church. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2016, at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Cornell C. Sudduth, Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to Second Baptist Church, 501 Monroe Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
