Elbert Herman Raithel, 84, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at University Hospital in Columbia. He was born on August 29, 1919 in the Horseshoe Bend area of Jefferson City, the son of Christian F. and Anna Katherine Schnieders Raithel. He was married on November 24, 1947 in Jefferson City to Leona Marie Scheuler who died on September 18, 2001. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Peggy and Tom Pearl; Pam and Max Foresman; and Connie and John Wegman, all of Jefferson City; six grandchildren, Chris Hathcock and his fiance, Andrea Garcia; Jonathan Hathcock; Bethany Foresman; Sarah Foresman; Jacob Wegman; and Nicholas Wegman; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Raithel, Jefferson City; and Cornelius Raithel, Versailles; and three sisters, Florence Ortmeyer, Irma Raithel, and Gladys Strope, all of Jefferson City.. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant son, Christopher Robert Raithel; infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Raithel; one brother, Alvin Raithel; and three sisters, Alma Rackers; Margaret Landwehr; and Rose Huhman. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2004, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Marion J. Makarewicz officiating. Burial will full military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2004, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, 3210 N. Ten Mile Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65109 (893-5251) with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Helias High School, 1305 Swifts Highway, Jefferson City, MO 65109; or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1206 E. Mr. Raithel owned and operated the Elbert Raithel Construction Company for over thirty years. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Holy Name Society; Roy Son Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003; American Legion Post 5; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693.
