Dudley Harold Cavender

Dudley Harold Cavender, 74, of Westphalia, died Saturday, November 1, 2003, at Westphalia Retirement Center. He was born on October 18, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Dudley Benjamin Cavender and Lora Frances Shouse Cavender. He was married on June 1, 1957 in Westphalia to Lillian Marie Werner who survives at the home. Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth G. and Diane Cavender, Lees Summit, and Keith J. and Anne Cavender, Westphalia; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen M. and Doug Hackmann, Columbia, Kathleen F. Cavender, Holts Summit, and Karla A. and Steven Brune, Westphalia; nine grandchildren; and three brothers and two sisters-in-law, James Cavender, Okeechobee, Florida, Nelson and Betty Cavender, Pacific, MO, and Ted and Beth Cavender, Eureka, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, with the Rev. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic School, 123 East Main Street, P.O.Box 205, Westphalia, MO 65085; or a charity of the donors choice. He was a graduate of Linn High School in 1947 and Lincoln University in 1958, and received a Masters Degree from the University of Missouri in 1973. He was an Army and Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean War. A lifelong educator, Mr. Cavender was a teacher and coach beginning in 1961 at Fatima High School, Westphalia, and serving as principal there from 1972 until his retirement in May 1989. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia; Westphalia Lions Club; and American Legion, Post #544.
