DOROTHY MARIE DONEHUE VOGEL

Dorothy Marie Donehue Vogel, 90, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Adams Street Place, her loving home for the last two and a half years. Dorothy was born on January 5, 1919, in Luystown, MO, to Anna and Peter F. Donehue, eldest of the ten children they reared in Linn. Dorothy was preceded in death by six of her siblings: Patrick, Jeanette Luetkemeyer, Daniel, A. C. (Pete), Robert, and Lincoln. In 1940 Dorothy married Leslie Vogel who preceded her in death in 1992. She lived and worked In Jefferson City’s East End most of her adult life where she was active in Immaculate Conception Parish and Girls Scouts of America. She walked from her home at the corner of Chestnut and McCarty to work at the Division of Employment Security, making the trek up Jackson Street Hill twice a day. After her retirement from DES, Dorothy presided as receptionist for Lisle Ramsey Studios. A tenaciously loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dorothy leaves a host of loved ones behind. Dorothy and Les were doting parents to Ellen Ann, Mary Lesley, and Karen Jean and became loving in-laws to Ellen’s husband Jack Butler and Karen’s husband, Terry Keeney. That love further extended to many others, including nieces and nephews, most notably Linda Donehue Grooms (Charleston, NC) and Debbie Donehue Coon (Jefferson City). As their daughters became mothers, Les and Dorothy’s love enveloped the grandchildren: Jeffry Butler, Christopher Butler, and Kathleen Butler Gray, all residing in Olathe, Kansas; Kirsten Schwaller Sigrist (Medway, MA), Gretchen Schwaller (Worcester, MA), and Derek Schwaller, (Griswold, CT); Matthew Keeney (Kansas City, MO) and Joshua Keeney (Orlando, Florida). Dorothy was preceded in death by one infant grandson, Thomas Schwaller,Jr. For the last nineteen years, Dorothy’s maternal love extended to her great-grandchildren: Michaela, Ethan, and Jason Butler; Lily, Owen, and Alaina Gray; Cooper and Griffin Sigrist; Jordan Hazard and Eliza Keeney, and Trevor and Luke Keeney. Dorothy’s last years were made enjoyable by her surviving siblings, Eula Schepers, Don and wife Patrice Donehue, and Richard Donehue, her sisters-in-law, Juanita Donehue and Arbell Vogel, brothers-in-law Harold Kuster and Rhey (Tiny) Vogel and by numerous nieces and nephews, especially Mark Luetkemeyer, and by the extended family at Adams Street Place. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. George Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 4-8 p.m. at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Discalced Carmelite Monastery, or Adams Street Place.
