Donald Lee Rice, 74, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at his residence. He was born on January 6, 1930, in Jefferson City, the son of Clark Champ and Nell Louise Sullivan Rice. He was married on October 1, 1953, in Jefferson City to Lola Irene Hook who survives at the home. Other survivors include three sons and their wives, Paul and Sandra Rice, Delray Beach, Florida; Kevin and Caroline Rice, Jefferson City; and James and Rayna Rice, Jefferson City; two daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth Tess and Danny Trammell, North Kansas City, MO; and Patricia and Donnie Schwartze, Jefferson City; twelve grandchildren, Ashley Trammell; Katrina Trammell; Alisha Smith; Megan Smith; Trevor Hickle; Shawna Schwartze; Leanna Schwartze; James Rice; Jeremy Rice; Kenna Weston; Kayla Nilges; and Natalie Rice; and three great-grandchildren, Laine Hickle; McKenna Morales; and Evan Smith. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Kathleen Louise Rice; and a sister, Elizabeth Jean Betty Rice. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at St. Joseph Cathedral with the Rev. Ignazio C. Medina officiating. Entombment with full military honors will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, 3210 N. Ten Mile Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65109, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905; or Carmelite Monastery, 2201 W. Mr. Rice was a graduate of St. Peter Catholic High School and attended Jefferson City Junior College. He was employed in earlier years with the News Tribune Publishing Company where he progressed from paperboy to circulation manager; Mulkey & Marshall Furniture Store; Missouri Highway Patrol; and retired as operations manager with the Missouri Secretary of State. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Rice was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral; Roy Sone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693; and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
