DOLORES MARIE McNALLY

June 15, 1915 — February 24, 2004

Dolores M. McNally, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at St. Josephs Home for the Aged. Dolores was born June 15, 1915, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a daughter of Joseph Fischer and Veronica Christianson Fischer. Her father operated a bakery shop and was the first mayor of North Milwaukee. She graduated from Holy Angels High School. On August 21, 1937, she married James E. McNally, a CPA, who established an accounting practice in Janesville, Wisconsin, where they made their home and raised their family. In retirement, they lived in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and then Jefferson City, Missouri. He died on April 3, 1997. Dolores McNally is survived by three children: Colleen M. McNally and her husband, Arnold Wolfe, of Western Springs, Illinois; Kathy Penfold and her husband, Jim, of Jefferson City, Missouri; and the Reverend Patrick J. McNally of Hopkins, Minnesota; seven granddaughters, Sarah Allen, Leah Moskoff, Rachel VanderPloeg, Jennifer Boyd, Bridget Bahneman, Rebecca Penfold, and Oonagh McNally; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Arleen Schomann of Thousand Palms, California. In addition to her husband, James, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Joey Fischer and Riley Fischer. A mass of Christian resurrection will be celebrated at 11 AM, Saturday, February 28, 2004, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Janesville, Wisconsin. Dolores was a homemaker and volunteer in numerous civic and social service organizations, including League of Women Voters, Headstart, Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts, Reach for Recovery, St. Vincent de Paul Society, hospital and school auxiliaries, and most importantly, her church. She was an active member of Catholic parishes in Wisconsin, Arkansas and Missouri. Her faith was a source of inspiration for her life, and it sustained her through many challenges. Dolores enjoyed needlework, reading, walking and Bible study. She is remembered by her family and friends as a devoted wife and mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother, and loyal friend. She is especially remembered for her wonderful pastries and pies.
