Claudette Jean Warfield Charlton Backes, 82, of Jefferson City, died February 23, 2016 in Jefferson City, Missouri. She was born September 12, 1933, in Cote Sans Dessein, Missouri, the daughter of Claude A. and Bernice A. Warfield; both preceded her in death. She married George Edward Charlton, Jr. July 20, 1951 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Following George's military service in Korea they returned to Jefferson City to raise a family. George preceded her in death on December 22, 2004. She married Bernard Backes on October 22, 2005, who also preceded her in death on February 9, 2012. Claudette was active in 4-H youth group, teaching sewing, crochet, cooking and crafts. She was known for her cracker and strawberry pies and had an avid Santa collection. She was a phenomenal seamstress and enjoyed quilting. She and George had 4 children: Deborah Kay Charlton (Tom) Frank, Jefferson City; Toni Michelle Charlton (Gregg) Halbrook, Jefferson City; Mark Edward (Annette) Charlton, O'Fallon, MO; Kelly Brian Charlton, Jefferson City. Grandchildren include: Shawn Frank, Casey Frank, Carey Frank, Nicole Zachar, Jared Willmeno, Blake Charlton, Dylan Charlton, Tyler Charlton, Kayla Charlton, Camryn Charlton, and Katie Charlton; and 10 great-grandchildren: Dalton Frank, Elizabeth Frank, Delaney Frank, Keeley Frank, Henley Frank, Saxon Scheidegger, Natalie Wolf, Bryce Evers, Leah Zachar, and Ellie Zachar. She is also survived by one sister, JohAnn (Dan) Kramer, Jefferson City; one brother-in-law, John (June) Charlton and one sister-in-law Mary Ann Williams both of Virginia. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Bruce David Warfield. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday February 25, 2016, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday February 26, 2016, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with Deacon Dan Joyce officiating. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to the Special Learning Center, 1115 Fairgrounds Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109 and the Central Missouri Alzheimer's Association, 2400 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, MO 65201.
