Clarence Albert Veit, Jr.

Clarence Albert Veit, Jr., 87, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on November 19, 1927, in Taos, Mo., the son of the late Clarence Albert, Sr., and Anna Frances Mertens Veit. He was married on June 14, 1952, in Osage Bend, Mo., to Dorothy Hedwig Hoelscher who survives at the home. A United States Navy veteran, Clarence retired on June 1, 1992, from the Missouri Division of Employment Security where he had been employed for forty-four years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Holy Name Society; Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and Honor Guard; American Legion; a life member of SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary; and a volunteer at the Samaritan Center. In earlier years, Clarence coached baseball and basketball with the Jefferson City Park Board and was a Boy Scout Troop 6 leader for a number of years. Clarence loved gardening and carpentry work especially when it involved helping his family. He loved being with his family and relatives, and was always ready to share his past memories of his family history. In addition to his wife Dorothy, he is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Rick) Kolb, Jefferson City; a son, Phil (Laura) Veit, Stilwell, Kansas; six grandchildren, Nicholas (Megan) Kolb, Katrina Kolb, Michael Kolb, Danielle Kolb, Camden Veit and Cooper Veit; two brothers, Stan (Charlotte) Veit, Osage Bend and Albert (Marlene) Veit, St. Charles, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Tom Schmidt, Florissant; and on Dorothy's side, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clarence (Mildred) Hoelscher, Jefferson City; Irvin (Shirley) Hoelscher, Osage Bend; Catherine (Herb) Bruemmer, Jefferson City; and Lucille (Richard) Welschmeyer, Freeburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roderick (Rose) Veit and Quentin (Joyce) Veit; two sisters, Mary Ann Schmidt and Catherine (Larry) Mulhall; and on Dorothy's side, one sister-in-law, Sr. Rose Virginia. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. David D. Cox officiating. Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jefferson City. His body was donated to science. A committal service will be held at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Helias Catholic High School, 1305 Swifts Highway, Jefferson City, MO 65109; Master Gardeners' Tree Memorial in Conifer Gardens, University of Missouri Extension, 2436 Tanner Bridge Road, Jefferson City, MO 65101; or a charity of the donor's choice.
