Charles Earl Seeney

Charles Earl Seeney, 73, formerly of Jefferson City, was called home by the Lord on Friday, September 23, 2016. Charles was born to James Harold and Ardis Elaine on April 2, 1943, in Jefferson City, MO. He was the middle of four children: Patricia Ann, James Harold Jr., and Kenneth Frederick. Charles met Barbara at Lincoln University where they both were matriculating. Charles was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Blanchard on November 4, 1966, at Indianhead Road Chapel at Fort Benning Army Base in Fort Benning, GA. Together they proudly raised three children, Philip Earl, James Michael, and Ann Michele. He and Barbara were to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this November. His education was placed on hold to answer the call of duty for the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968. He graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA. He was stationed at Fort Dix, NJ; Fort Richardson, AL; Fort Benning, GA; Fort Lee, VA and Fort Riley, KS. He served in the ChemCorp as a Lieutenant and earned a marksmanship award. Charles received his bachelor's degree in Organic Chemistry from Lincoln University and his master's degree in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Akron. Charles was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. Charles was a scientist who committed over 35 years of his career to not only research, but to his entrepreneurial spirit. He developed several businesses that focused on nanotechnology and bio-medical research. Charles has 24 US patents and several more international equivalents, numerous accolades and publications. A few of the accolades of which he was the most proud include The 1890 Universities Career Exemplar Award, commendation from the State of Oklahoma, and most recently being inducted into the Lincoln University Alumni Hall of Fame for his distinguished career and accomplishments. He was a pioneer in the field of nanotechnology and cancer research. Charles was a very intelligent and special person. His reserved nature and quirky wit endeared him to many. He influenced the lives of so many during his time with us. We hear stories of how a conversation, or even being their chess coach, made a difference in how their lives were shaped. He is dearly loved and missed by his family, friends, and extended family. He was a loving father, husband and friend. He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his living, his wife of 50 years Barbara Ann; children James Michael of Moore, OK, Ann Michele of St. Louis, MO; his brother, Kenneth Seeney (Wanda) of Holt Summit, MO; his brother-in-law, Charles Lawson, Rockville, MD; his nephew James Harold III(Heather); his nieces Lyric, Alayna and Alexis; great nephew, James Charles; and a host of family and friends. His parents; his sister; one brother, James Harold, Jr.; one son, Philip Earl; and one niece, Jacquelyn Sue preceded him in death. Visitation will be 11a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, 3210 North 10 Mile Drive, Jefferson City. Burial with military honors will immediately following the visitation at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens, 4205 Horner Road, Jefferson City.
