CLEOPHUS MATTHEW JONES

June 30, 1930 — March 24, 2005

Cleophus Matthew Jones, 74, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on June 30, 1930 in Grady, Arkansas, the son of Wesley and Essie Lee Bradley Jones. He was married on May 24, 1980 in Jefferson City to Dorothy Jean Johnson Brown who survives at the home. He received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of Arkansas and a Master of Social Work degree from Lincoln University. He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Jones served as Director of the Work Release Program for the Missouri Department of Corrections; was Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Missouri Department of Social Services; and was a consultant to the State Receivership for Nursing Homes. He was a Registered Lobbyist with the Missouri State Legislature. Mr. Jones was a member of Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church; Jefferson City Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting. Other survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Brown, St. Louis; and Freda Maxwell, Little Rock, Arkansas; two sons, Charles Earl Jones, Brooklyn, New York; and William Brown, St. Louis; three grandchildren, Stacey Maxwell; Adriane Maxwell; and Sydney Stallings Brown; and a brother, Amos Hawkins, Grady, Arkansas. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2005, at Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Jefferson City, with the Rev. Freda Cash Bady officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 31st, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Jefferson City.
