CLARENCE WILLIAM ROCKERS

May 9, 1929 — November 15, 2009

Clarence William Rockers, 80, of St. Martins, Mo., died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Capital Region Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 9, 1929, in St. Martins, Mo., the son of the late Clarence Anthony and Rose Mary Ihler Rockers. He was united in marriage on June 14, 1958, in St. Martins, to Juliann Benne who survives at the home. Mr. Rockers was a United States Navy veteran of World War II serving as a fireman. He was employed as a carman and car inspector on the Missouri Pacific Railroad from 1952 to 1985, working out of the home base of Jefferson City and also Sedalia and Kansas City. He also did Emergency Road Work for the railroad. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister and Rosary leader. In his youth he was a devoted server until the age of seventeen. He served on the Diocesan Pastoral Council, taught parochial school Religion classes and Vacation Bible School; and was an active volunteer with the Prison Ministry and Missouri Pro-Life Ministry. He was a member of the Transportation-Communication Union and Railroad Union for more than fifty years; Helias Band Boosters; Knights of Columbus Council 7194; and was an American Red Cross blood donor. He had a deep compassion for the poor and underprivileged and was socially concerned for the good of the general public. He enjoyed gardening, music, trains, tool and antique restoration, cooking, canning, and was an avid State Fair attendee. He had a gift of being able to make usable things out of items others would consider worthless. But his greatest love encompassed his family and most especially his grandchildren.
