CHARLES LEANDER VERHOFF

November 26, 1906 — August 3, 2008

Charles Leander Verhoff, 91, of Jefferson City formerly of Westphalia, died Sunday, August 3, 2008, at Oak Tree Villas. He was born on November 26, 1916, in St. Elizabeth the son of Dr. Conrad Stanislaus and Anna Linneman Verhoff. He was a 1936 graduate of Westphalia High School. He was united in marriage on December 25, 1943, in St. Louis to Nancy Ann Isenberg who survives at the home. Charles was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. Mr. Verhoff worked for Columbia Prosthetics in service tech and delivery for five years, worked for twenty years as a corrections officer with Algoa Reformatory, and was a farmer. Charles was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, American Legion Post 544, and a past member of Knights of Columbus Council 1171. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, dogs, and sports especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Other survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Jack Nichols, Ashland; Jane and Lawrence Copeland, Freeburg; three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Faye Verhoff, Jefferson City; David and Patty Verhoff, Kansas City; Charles and Kay Verhoff, Mesa, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Irene Bolin. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, with the Rev. Philip M. Kane officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, P.O.
