Cecil Vance Branson, 82, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at Truman Memorial Veterans Administration Hospital, Columbia, after receiving loving care and support from Missouri River Hospice for chronic illness.
He was born on Nov. 21, 1926, in Bland, Mo., the son of the late Thomas Lewis and Mary Alda Spurgeon Branson. He was married on June 28, 1952, in Bland, Mo. to Bette Jane Welch who survives at the home. Vance attended schools in Gasconade County and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945. He completed infantry training as a rifleman at Camp Fannin, Texas, in October, 1945, and was assigned overseas to serve as a military policeman with the 115th military police company in Florence, Italy. He landed at the Anzio beachhead to join the thrust northward to defeat Germany, for which he was decorated with the Victory Medal. Upon returning he worked in the shoe industry and later retired from Westinghouse in Jefferson City. Vance loved being outdoors, including his property at the Gasconade River, where he enjoyed boating and entertaining. His greatest happiness was being with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Other survivors include one son, James (Deann) Branson, Jefferson City; two grandchildren, Nikki Branson and Gavin Branson; one sister, Dorothy Davis, Ozark, Mo.; one brother, Gilbert (Mary) Branson, Owensville, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Lucy Branson, Vienna, Mo.; and Lorraine Welch, Zellwood, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; and a close extended family, Dr. Gene Ridenhour and family, Columbia, Mo. He was preceded in death by one brother, Victor Branson; and one sister, Pauline Schirmann; and one brother-in-law, Command Sgt. Major Bill Welch.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with Chaplain Bart Larson officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Countryside Memorial Gardens, Owensville, Mo. Visitation will 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Missouri River Hospice, 1440 Aaron Court, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
