Bernice Marie Schatzer

Bernice Marie Schatzer, 96, of Jefferson City, died Monday, February 15, 2016, at Heisinger Bluffs. She was born on July 22, 1919, in Jamestown, Missouri, the daughter of the late Oscar Milton and Frances Maud Jahns Haldiman. She was married on July 13, 1943, in Jefferson City to Earl Albert Schatzer who preceded her in death on October 28, 2007. A graduate of Jamestown High School, Mrs. Schatzer attended the former Warrensburg Teachers College. She was employed for many years as a secretary for the Missouri Department of Education. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church; Ladies Sodality; Sew-N-Sew Quilting Club; and was a Girl Scout leader in earlier years. She greatly enjoyed sewing, quilting, tatting, crocheting, and made many beautiful items with thread and material that she shared with her family as well as others. Survivors include five children, Jim (Linda) Schatzer, Hartsburg, Missouri; Jean (Carey) Bogg, Jefferson City; Norbert Lee (Jan) Schatzer, Springfield, Missouri; Barbara Schatzer, San Diego, California; and Jon Jay (Melissa) Schatzer, Alpharetta, Georgia; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Haldiman, Nixa, Missouri; and one brother, Martin (Shirley) Haldiman, San Diego, California. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ted Haldiman; and two sisters, Nola Dischman and Dortha Ryland. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2016, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Gregory C. Meystrik officiating. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, February 19th, at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church or St. Peter Catholic School, 216 Broadway Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101; or Samaritan Center, 1310 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
