BILLY RAY JOHNSON

Billy Ray Johnson, 62, of Jefferson City, died Friday, September 11, 2009, at his home. He was born on February 1, 1947, in California, MO, the son of Ray and Helen Berniece Springer Johnson. He was a United States Army veteran serving during Vietnam. He was united in marriage on June 3, 1966, in Tipton, MO, to Judy Charlene Petree who survives at the home. Mr. Johnson had been employed with Harold Welch Construction for many years and with St. Mary’s Health Center as a building carpenter retiring in February of 2009. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, served on the St. Martins Bus Committee, and coached softball for his daughters. Billy loved to do carpenter work for everyone, loved working on cars, and loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. Other survivors include: three daughters, Kristy Johnson, Jefferson City; Kellyn Johnson, Jefferson City; Katie and husband Brice Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; four grandchildren, Claire, Gracie, Caleb, Aubrie; expecting one grandchild in eighteen days; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and Roger Hunt, Waldron, Ark.; Connie and Cecil Shehorn, Warsaw, MO; and one brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Janan Johnson, California, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 Noon Monday, September 14, 2009, at St. Martin Catholic Church, with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery.
