BERNARD JOHN NILGES

August 17, 1934 — June 14, 2005

Bernard John Nilges, 70, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on Aug. 17, 1934 in Freeburg, MO, the son of William Balster and Catherine Bock Nilges. He was married on Nov. 28, 1959 in Freeburg to Rita Ann Herzing who survives at the home. A United States Army veteran, Mr. Nilges was employed in materials handling with the Transformer Division of ABB Company for twenty-five years until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral; American Legion; California Country Club; and was a charter member of Holts Summit Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Other survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Marla Nilges, Jefferson City; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Thomas Sawyer, Katy, Texas; three grandchildren, Courtney Lykins, Bryton Nilges, and Conner Nilges; one great-grandson, Cole Lykins; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Nancy Nilges, Freeburg; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Barbara Nilges, Jefferson City; Dorothy and John Iven, Freeburg; Georgia and Tom DeBroeck, Mansfield, Texas; and Mary and Richard Hoffman, Freeburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Victor Nilges. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005, at St. Joseph Cathedral with the Rev. Jeremy A. Secrist officiating. Entombment with full military honors will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 17th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Cathedral, 2305 W.
