Agatha Agnes Haslag

Agatha Agnes Haslag 86, of California, Missouri, died Sunday, August 30, 2020, at her home.

She was born on April 14, 1934, in Loose Creek, the daughter of the late Herman August and Elizabeth Johanna (Rustemeyer) Backes.

She was married on July 30, 1953, in Loose Creek to Herman Hubert Haslag. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2008.

She was a member of the first graduating class of Fatima High School where she also served as catcher of the softball team.

A homemaker and active participant in the family poultry and cattle farm, Agatha was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and the St. Martin Catholic Church quilting group. With her large family she volunteered freely at the church, school, and with hospice in later years.

Agatha enjoyed fishing, baking, winning at card games, quilting, puzzles, painting-by-number, embroidery, flowers, baking, feeding the birds, and gardening. She cherished the times she could hold babies, spend time with her family and friends, and family trips.

Survivors include thirteen children, Ralph Haslag, Rolla; Evelyn (John) Dudenhoeffer, Chamois; David (Barb) Haslag, Hartsburg; Richie Haslag, Eugene, Oregon; Kenny (Brenda) Haslag, Jefferson City; Allan (Jane) Haslag, Jefferson City; Andrew (Karen) Haslag, Jefferson City; Joyce (Andy) Distler, Jefferson City; Jeanne Haslag, Columbia; Ron Haslag, Centertown; Linda (Mark) Kremer, Loose Creek; Janice (Scott) Kasmann, Columbia; and Cheryl (Josh) Govero, Springfield; thirty-three grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; a brother, Hubert (Joan) Backes, Loose Creek; and a sister, Eleanor (Louis) Schepers, Jefferson City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman; one son, Dennis Haslag; five brothers, Bernard Backes, Hugo Backes, John P. Backes, John Adolph Backes, and an infant brother; three sisters, Mary Margaret Haslag and infant twin sisters.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the prayer service at 3:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2020, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Jason F. Doke officiating. The service will be live streamed for those who wish to watch from home. The link can be found on Agatha’s obituary page under Tribute Wall at www.dulletrimble.com.

Burial will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery.

The general public is welcome to attend services while following social distancing guidelines. Facial coverings are required while in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Martin Catholic Church.
