ANTHONY FRANCIS PLASSMEYER

Anthony Francis "Tony" Plassmeyer, 83, Westphalia, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 9, 1926, in Westphalia, the son of John Herman and Mary Elizabeth Loehner Plassmeyer. He was united in marriage on Dec. 27, 1948, in Jefferson City, to Marilyn Arline Onken who survives at the home. He attended the Westphalia schools and in 1982 earned an associate degree in accounting from Linn Tech. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre with the U.S. Army. Upon returning from the military, he began farming with his father. Through the years he held many other jobs but his first love was the land and in 1967, he and his wife bought a farm in the Folk area where they have remained ever since. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Folk, charter and life member of the Westphalia Historical Society, and the American Legion Post 544 in Westphalia. He was also a past president of the Osage County Farm Bureau. A hunter, fisherman, and gardener, the outdoors was where he liked to be always with a dog or two or three behind him. After holding season tickets for the Missouri University football team through thirty lean years, he was happy to have lived through these last two seasons. Survivors include his wife of 60 years; two daughters and their husbands, Cheryl and Joe Rutz, Washington, Mo; Joan and Dennis Fick, Westphalia; one son and his wife, Anthony Chip and Diane Plassmeyer, Colorado Springs; eight grandchildren, Shelby (Jay) Bunge; Ryan (Stacy) Fick; Curtis (Katie) Plassmeyer; Casey (Adrienne) Fick; Carrie (Joe) Freese; Angie (Andrew)Matthewman; Leslie (Joe) Haddox; Anthony Rutz; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Rita Mengwasser, Rich Fountain; Evelyn Thurman, Park Hill; and Vi Hodges, Westphalia. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Bernard Plassmeyer and Herbert Plassmeyer. His body was donated to the University of Missouri. A Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, where he was baptized and confirmed, with the Rev. Philip M. Kane, officiating. Visitation for family and friends and a luncheon will follow the Mass at the Lions Hall, Westphalia.
