AMOS DALTON MORRIS

Amos Dalton Morris, Sr., 82, of Jefferson City, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1926, in Center Ridge, Ark., the son of the late Ironton Chester and Mattie Octavia Dulle Morris. He was married on June 7, 1951, in Jefferson City to Dorris Mae Morris who died on March 16, 2006. Mr. Morris attended high school in the Boot Hill area of Missouri; received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree from Lincoln University; and a Master of Science in Biology degree from the University of Missouri. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was an elementary school teacher at Douglas School in Columbia, Mo.; a Biology and Mathematics teacher at Bloomington (Ill.) High School; served as Dean of Students at a junior high school in Bloomington; and retired in 1983 as Administrator for Title I in Education for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Jefferson City. He was a member of Second Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for many years. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at Lincoln University; Jefferson Lodge No. 9, F.& A.M., Jefferson City; active in Lincoln University Alumni Association, Jefferson City Community Center, and many other community organizations. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, computer games (dominoes and chess), writing stories and reciting poems, and golfing (especially watching Tiger Woods).
Survivors include three children, Patreece Reece, St. Louis, Mo.; Sylvia (Michael) Ferguson, Jefferson City; and Amos Dalton, Jr. (Mary Jane) Morris, Evansville, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Jermaine Reece, Michael Reece, Katrina Reece, Jennifer Ferguson, Joshua Ferguson, Jared Morris, Derek Morris, Aubrey Morris, and Dalton Morris; many great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Velma Morris Palmer and Lucresia Hicks, both of Lilbourn, Mo. He was preceded in death by one sister, Eva Jewel Byers; and four brothers, Robert Morris, Ebenezar F.J. Morris, Elroy Morris, and Ellis Smiley Morris.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Cornell C. Sudduth, Sr., officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Longview Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21st, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Amos Morris Memorial Fund.
