Maurice Lee Burd, 78, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at St. Mary’s Health Center.

He was born on Jan. 21, 1931, in Meta, Mo., the son of the late James Riley and Chloe Etta Allen Burd. He was married on Oct. 3, 1953, in Jefferson City to Dorothy Anne Distler who died on July 26, 2002.

Mr. Burd was a 1950 graduate of Jefferson City High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1958 from Lincoln University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He served as an accountant for four years with the Missouri Dept. of Corrections, and retired in 1991 as Reimbursement Administrator with the Missouri Dept. of Mental Health where he had served for nearly thirty years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Carl Stokes, Jefferson City; and two grandchildren, Joshua Stokes and Mikayla Stokes.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Burd Papen; and a brother, Allen “Smokey” Burd.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick G. Dolan officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
